In this week’s round of insights, we highlight three recent developments and talking points in the world of medical communications.

Bridging disciplines in medical publishing

A recent poll from the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) explored the complexities of publishing multidisciplinary research.

Results emphasised the importance of early planning through a steering committee to ensure fairness, transparency and alignment with International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations (ICMJE) and Good Publication Practice (GPP) 2022 guidelines.

According to the results, authorship should depend on direct contribution rather than affiliation or seniority; other contributions should be recognised through detailed acknowledgements.

The findings reinforce the idea that structured approaches and transparency are essential for effective publishing.

Becoming a leader in MedComms

A recent podcast discussion featured on NetworkPharma and hosted by TrioTalk explored what it takes to transition into leadership roles in medical communications.

The conversation highlighted that career progression involves a combination of experience, mentorship and personal development. The speakers emphasised the importance of adaptability, self-awareness and continuous learning in building a successful leadership career.

As the role of medical writers evolves, so does the expectation to contribute beyond content creation. According to the discussion, this increased responsibility and contribution positions writers as strategic partners within organisations.
