In this week’s round of insights, we highlight three recent developments and talking points in the world of medical communications and scientific publishing.

Highlights from the ISMPP European Meeting 2026

The 2026 European Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) in London brought together the publications community to explore how the field has adapted to the increasing complexity, rising content demands and quick integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

Across sessions, speakers emphasised that efficiency must be balanced with scientific clarity and ethical responsibility. Discussions highlighted the importance of patient-centric publications and structured storytelling to improve publication quality and impact. As expected, AI featured as a hot topic as well.

How can writers make the most of congresses?

A recent discussion from the Transforming Medical Communications video series explored how industry congresses are changing from standalone events to strategic communication platforms.

According to the speakers, attending or presenting at congresses as a writer or scientist is no longer sufficient; instead, congresses should serve as a venue for building communication strategies before, during and after the event.

These strategies include aligning messaging, leveraging digital channels, and ensuring that content generated at congresses has long-term value.

Free webinar: Addressing blind spots in women’s healthcare marketing

An upcoming webinar by the Healthcare Communications Association aims to discuss how healthcare marketing engages women. Despite being primary healthcare decision-makers, women are often under-served by messaging that fails to reflect their experiences or health needs.

Speakers will elaborate on the importance of moving beyond assumptions and addressing biases in data, language and campaign design. According to the organiser, addressing these blind spots can help agencies or writers improve engagement, trust, and ultimately health outcomes.

The webinar will take place on 14 April at 1 PM BST.
