Colorectal cancer (CRC) has become the leading cause of cancer-related death in adults younger than 50 years in the US. A recent analysis from JAMA pointed to delayed diagnosis, low screening uptake, and rising exposure to modifiable risk factors as key contributors to the rise. CRC screening guidelines have expanded to include younger age groups; however, their implementation remains uneven. The findings from the analysis called for improved awareness of CRC symptoms in young people and broad access to preventive strategies.

Recent evidence published in Chest suggested that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors may reduce mortality in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). IPF is a chronic lung disease that causes irreversible scarring of the lung tissue. In the study, researchers found a consistent association between ACE-inhibitor use and improved survival, independent of antifibrotic therapy. The mechanism responsible for this improvement, however, remains unclear. The researchers emphasised that prospective studies will be needed to determine whether ACE-inhibitors could play a supportive role in IPF management.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved YUVEZZI (carbachol and brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution) for the treatment of presbyopia in adults. This marked the first FDA-approved dual-agent eye drop for presbyopia. YUVEZZI is designed to improve near vision while maintaining distance vision and tolerability. Presbyopia affects more than a billion people worldwide and currently has limited pharmacologic options. This approval may represent a step forward in addressing an everyday, age-related condition that has a substantial impact on quality of life.
