Industry Insights: AI

This week we’re highlighting some of the latest advancements and discussions in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

How AI may be improving remote patient monitoring

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is a telehealth strategy that uses digital devices and software to collect patient health data outside of clinical settings. AI tools promise to make RPM scalable and effective. A recent discussion from the American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) highlighted how AI can analyse data from connected devices to detect early signs of health deterioration, support chronic disease management and reduce hospitalisations. According to experts, AI analyses can potentially help clinicians intervene sooner and improve patient outcomes.

AI models discover links between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and ageing

New findings from a study published in the journal Aging have shown that AI models can map the molecular interplay between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and biological ageing processes. The study identified shared pathways in inflammation, immune regulation and cellular ageing, potentially explaining why IPF is more common in elderly adults. According to the researchers, AI tools can pave the way for new drug discovery, biomarker identification and personalised medicine strategies.

Video session: Beyond the AI hype

In a recent webinar posted on Networkpharma.tv, pharma expert Rohit Sood shared his views on the role of AI in life sciences. The session focused on how AI can help research, regulatory work and commercial planning. Sood emphasised that companies must distinguish between real benefits and inflated promises. AI should speed up decisions, cut uncertainty and support strategy, from drug development to launch planning. Sood noted that the impact of AI is greater when it is built into whole business processes.
